1770 & Agnes Water

Beach holidays like they used to be!

1770 proudly offers beach holidays how they used to be—ultimate relaxation in an area that few have discovered! Sealed roads are few and summery bliss is endless. This is the perfect place to escape and completely forget that your worries even exist! 1770 was named after the first landfall of a European (Captain Cook) on Queensland’s eastern coast. The town is the only one in the world to have a number for a name and has managed to preserve and hero a lot of its natural beauty due to being largely underestimated as a tourist destination for so long! These days, the Joseph Banks Environmental Park preserves much of the flora and fauna on the peninsula area and holiday makers are drawn in by the picturesque yet rugged rock outcrops and ultimate relaxed beach lifestyle!

1770 is located at the southern end of Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef. It sits almost exactly halfway between Bundaberg and Gladstone and has a sealed road that joins the neighbouring township of Agnes Water. Just 8km apart, these two towns are simple, but far from sleepy. There are supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, pubs, art galleries, museums, and a range of tours to enjoy, plus you can float, paddle, jets-ski, or surf—there’s both a lagoon area and wave breaks and stinger suits are not required!

There’s plenty to do in this stunning coastal region. Swim in the ocean, learn the art of water sports and surfing, or head to the marina to arrange a snorkel trip at the Great Barrier Reef. Fishing, camping, and bush walks are popular here as there are plenty of amazing estuaries, unspoiled rainforests, and National and Marine parkland! Visit the neighbouring town of Agnes Water to learn about the history of the region at the Agnes Water Museum or head further afield to Lady Musgrave and Middle Island. Festivals, live music, and art is popular here too so, if no matter if you’re looking for an action-packed or a completely relaxed coastal escape, it makes sense to pick 1770 as your new holiday destination!
